Who is it for?

This course is for...

Those in regular contact or have a period of intense but irregular contact, with children, young people and/or parents/carers including all health clinical staff, who may be in a position to identify concerns about maltreatment, including those that may arise from the use of CAF.

For example, housing, hospital staff, YOT staff and staff in secure settings, the police other than those in specialist child protection roles, sports development officers, disability specialists, faith groups, community youth groups, play scheme volunteers

What does it cover?

This course covers

  • The  definitions of significant harm and abuse and neglect (Working Together to Safeguard Children, 2015) specifically in relation to child sexual exploitation.
  • The multi-agency perspective on the intervention, identification and safeguarding of sexually exploited children. 
  • The delegate's own role in respect of identifying concerns about children at risk of sexual exploitation
  • The ‘public interest’ responsibility to share information in order to protect children from the risk of significant harm
  • The sexual exploitation of children in the UK within the global context of sexual exploitation
     

What are the course outcomes?

Participants will be able to..

  • Be aware of the definitions of significant harm and abuse and neglect (Working Together to Safeguard Children, 2015) specifically in relation to child sexual exploitation.
  • Understand the importance of a Multi-agency perspective on the intervention, identification and safeguarding of sexually exploited children.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of local procedures, protocols, and services.
  • Be aware of their own role in respect of identifying concerns about children at risk of sexual exploitation 
  • Know the signs and identification, the interventions available local procedures, protocols and services
  • The specific support needs of children
